Please note that this is a collaborative website that serves to assemble the different elements of the WESR-Climate change data & information platform. The different components will be integrated later within an ad-hoc layout on the dedicated section of the UNEP-WESR website ....

Drivers are forces that serve to satisfy needs. In the context of climate change, society's orientation to create economic growth and expand human well-being lead to the production of pressures that cause climate change
IPCC recognizes various factors as main drivers to GHG emissions including consumption, international trade, population growth, economic growth, structural change to a service economy, and energy consumption.

    About population growth:

Globally, economic and population growth continue to be the most important drivers of increases in CO2 emissions from fossil fuel combustion. The contribution of population growth between 2000 and 2010 remained roughly identical to the previous three decades, while the contribution of economic growth has risen sharply (high confidence).
